Times have becoming demanding where each one of us is expected to fulfil a task with perfection in a given period of time. If a sales manager has to give a near to perfect presentation in front of his board members then a housewife has to manage the household chores and kids with equal dexterity. Something or the other is expected from all of us and each one of us is answerable to a higher authority. In such circumstances pressure is bound to occur on an individual’s mind. The kind of pressure which is prevalent among employees due to work related expectations is called workplace stress in the terminology of clinical psychology. Depression, anxiety, post traumatic strains, dissatisfaction, fatigue, tension, emotional outbursts, aggression and substance abuse are some of the stress related disorders. If stress is not controlled it can also lead to concentration problems, memory problems and in the worst cases cardiovascular diseases which might also lead to death.

There are many therapies to reduce stress (stress verminderen) among which color therapy or chromotherapy is very popular across the globe. In this therapy the patient is treated with color blue and green which are said to bring a sense of calmness and reduce the level of stress, anxiety and depression. Stress can also be reduced with the help of aromatherapy where victims of stress and anxiety are made to inhale the vapors (vapeurs) of plants such as bergamot and marjoram. It has been seen that a stressed out person pours most of his stress on his or her family or loved ones which further brings problems. One needs to be extremely patient and wise while dealing with someone who is stressed out. The stress levels are directly proportional to the level of confidence an individual has. People with low levels of confidence are more vulnerable to stress related disorders.

In a broader term stress is related to any point where a kind of pressure or strain is exerted on a given surface. In geology stress is often studied in terms of compressions which have occurred on the surface of rocks while in mechanics it is the average amount of force exerted per unit area. When it comes to human beings, stress is indeed a colossal problem suffered by the urban population. It is something which has to be effectively dealt in order to maximise productivity keeping in mind the psychological satisfaction and happiness of the employee. For overall progress a stress free environment environment is a must for every organization.
